INFO ON THE ARTISTS
* Stephen O MALLEY (US) + Oren AMBARCHI (AU)
First ever duo performance of this mind blowing duo a day after their
performance as SUNN 0))) with Boris and Earth. Expect the unexpected and a surprise add
on to the set.
STEPHEN O'MALLEY (aka SOMA) is mainly Southern Lord Records co-founder/in-house
album artist and Sunn 0))) guitarist. His focus has been drone doom, death/doom metal
having as a main inspiration and guidance the duo/trio EARTH. He is currently pursuing
projects as Ginnungagap, KTL, Lotus Eaters and Gravetemple.

OREN AMBARCHI (AUS) - Oren is an electronic guitarist and drummer with longstanding
interests in transcending conventional instrumental approaches. Born in Sydney, Australia in
1969, he has been performing live since 1986. He was a member of noise band Phlegm with
Robbie Avenaim, with whom he now co-organises the What Is Music Festival. His work
focuses mainly on the exploration of the guitar, though he also plays percussion in some of
his live performances. Recently, he has starting touring with drone doom band Sunn O))) as
well as releasing an EP with Attila Csihar and Sunn O)))'s Greg Anderson under the name
Burial Chamber Trio. Ambarchi also works in popular music contexts and is a drummer for
the group Sun with vocalist Chris Townend formerly of Kiss My Poodles Donkey.
* OSSO EXOTICO (David Maranha + Patricia Machás) (PT) + Z'EV (US)
First live collaboration between Portuguese formation Osso Exotico and
UK-based Z'EV tribal percussionist launching their new album on Crouton.
About:
Since 1989, the Portugal avant garde ensemble Osso Exótico have created a stunning body
of work. Current members are André Maranha, David Maranha and Patricia Machás.
Percussionist Z'EV, who has spent the better part of 30 years finding ways to coax sound
out of material, and then creating a mystic cacaphony out of it, also uses sound as
communication. Long stretches of rhythmic and bubbling organ are matched by large bass
drum patterns that culminate in an expansive psychedelic pool of sound. This isn't glassine
drone music. It spews the grit of Tony Conrad into the trance of Terry Riley, while radiating
the experience of a sweat lodge in a behemoth explosion of tribal minimalism. With no sound
processing, the result is a highly natural, grossly enigmatic, and deeply energized recording.
* Mark WASTELL (UK) + Joachim NORDWALL (SE)
Premiere of new works from Sound323 lowercase/improv master Mark Wastell
and IDeal Recordings boss Joachim Nordwall.
About:
JOACHIM NORDWALL (SE) - A sound artist/musician from Goteborg, formerly of Kid
Commando, 'an avant punk rock trio', Joachim is known for founding the iDEAL organisation,
responsible for great releases and a annual festival and performs solo under The Idealist.
Powerful drone music that won't lull the listener into a deep sleep. Intense music that defies
genres, belonging partly to industrial music and partly drone/ambient.

MARK WASTELL (UK) - Beside being already Sound323 and Confront label boss, Mark
Wastell's current instrumental material primarily focuses on using abstract principles of space
and texture - encompassing elements of new London silence, pro-instrument minimalism,
new complexity and electro-acoustics. Because of the very nature of his chosen instrument,
he tends to favour ?chamber' style ensembles and is a member of a number of regular
groups. Much of Mark Wastell's relationship with his chosen instrument is concentrated on
the tactile, textural and sonic possibilities of both violoncello and bow. Subsequent exposure
to contemporary composers lead to a greater understanding and appreciation of the works
written for strings by Feldman, Cage, Nono, Lachenmann and Sciarrino. The use of live
electronics and music concrete by Tudor, Parmegiani, Xenakis and others was another
important early influence.
* Tetuzi AKIYAMA (JP) + Herve BOGHOSSIAN (FR)
Special one/off and first time duo showcase of classical minimal guitar
improvisations
TETUZI AKIYAMA (JP) - Akiyama is often associated with the improvising community in
Tokyo generated around Tokyo's Off Site venue. But to Tetuzi's sound owes just as much to
the country blues guitarists of the '30s. His sound has taken the blues form into a new world
of minimalist improvisations. His loose playing side steps the usual clichés of the guitar in
both the free improv and traditional folk scenes. He can be heard to amazing effect on ,"Time
Between", on the locust music compilation Wooden Guitar. Also highly recommended is his
spare blues ramblings on, Relator, on Taku Sugimoto's Slub label. Tetuzi has a varied
number of very different projects from free improvisations, working with musicians across the
globe, to hard minimalist electric blues boogies.
HERVE BOGHOSSIAN (FR) - Born in Marseille, Hervé created the avant-rock band (trio and
then duo) ION+ with Jurgen Heckel (aka Sogar). He began his solo career under the moniker
SOL, he soon composed a 15 minutes electronic soundtrack called " i@s ", a collaboration
with german video director Thomas Einfeldt .
H.B began to work on his album "Mouvements" based on guitar processed by computer -
released on Raster-Noton in june 2004. He later created the trio project "PLATEFORMES"
with Matthieu Saladin on amplified bass clarinet and Stéphane Rives on soprano saxophone
and him on guitar feedback . In parallel, he began to work on composition series project
Archi.Texture, the first volume featuring John Tilbury (AMM) on piano and Mark Wastell on
cello, H.B was in charge of the composition and computer process. The album was release on
the British label Cathnor. 2 volumes are to follow with contributions from Burkhard Beins,
Stéphane Rives, Bertrand Denzler .... He currently works on the follow-up to "Mouvements".
