About the Bands
volcano!
Avant rock/noise trio from Chicago with energetic mixes of intense drums patterns, stretched melodies and controlled rage. volcano! are creatively white-hot and ferociously innovative. What may at first sound chaotic and unplanned reveals itself on repeated listening as meticulously structured: rhythms gather, flicker, melt(down) and emerge as something different; splenetic episodes give way to passages of hymnal calm which in turn are shattered as language breaks down into strobe-like stuttering and is tugged back into line by Sam Scranton's insistent drumming; silvery shards of controlled static ride high above everything. Melodies are stretched to and beyond breaking point, Aaron With's guitar shifts between a ragged, feverish dissonance and bright spaciousness ("La Lluvia" is even lush). There are no boundaries and no indulgences, nothing here that's hackneyed or extraneous.
Their first release 'Beautiful Seizure' (Leaf) is driven by a relentless exploratory intelligence, but it would be a mistake to consider volcano!'s music as purely cerebral.
"Lush sing-and-strums, schizophrenic dance-punk anthems and claustrophobic descents into guitar-noise and electronic freak-outs." (Redefine)
"veering back and forth from a battering, scraping chaos of textures to a more directed bout of rock blast. It's an enjoyable kind of chaos, precisely choreographed. [...] volcano!'s febrile explosions and switchbacks are a vocabulary of their own." The Wire (february 06)

Tape
Tape is a trio from Stockholm, Sweden which music (including tape recordings, double bass and computer improv) moves between experimental music and pop without effort and has been recognised internationally for it's particular sound where electronics blend with all sorts of acoustic and electric instruments. Tape was formed in 2000 by brothers Andreas and Johan Berthling together with Tomas Hallonsten. Their first recording Opera came out in 2002, the second - Milieu in 2003, both released on the fabulous imprint Häpna.
Their third and latest album, Rideau was produced by Pluramon's Markus Schmickler - a well established German musician and producer.
A gentle, open-ended music which bears the sonic imprint of folk and psychedelic music (Bagatelle).
"Tape crafts minimal tunes, walking the thin line between acoustic guitar playing, drone pieces of their melodica and bon tempi organs and computer processed field recordings. Slow, peaceful and pastoral: Tape is simply beautiful music." (Vital Weekly)

Greg Davis & Sebastien Roux
After over a year of internet exchanges of ideas and sounds, Parisian Sébastien Roux (FR | apestaartje, 12K) and Vermonter Greg Davis (US | Kranky, Carpark) decided to put their aspirations to the test. Combining their interests in psychedelic music, digital processing, folk, sunshine pop, musique concrete, ethnic sounds, drones and field recordings, Sebastien (who works at the famed computer music institution IRCAM) and Greg (who holds two degrees in music and composition) have created a dynamic musical journey full of joy and surprises. Whether it's large rocks being thrown into a stream, Sebastien singing or Greg playing the double mijwiz, diverse sound worlds come together in this "surprise package".
Grit and fluidity, a perfectly realised meeting of found sound and ramshackle instrumentation (Boomkat)
