with an academic background of classical & jazz guitar alongside
composition and jazz studies and after years of hip-hop groups, jazz
combos, free improvisation and experimental composition, greg moved
toward the world of computer-based music in 1997. That same year he started his own label, autumn records.
After moving to Boston in 1999 to pursue his studies in composition,
he independently immersed himself in the study of electronic music and
became an active performer on the boston music scene. He has released
4 promising records in only 2 years and has toured extensively since
doing shows in Europe, Japan, Canada, Mexico, and all across the USA.
He is now based in Chicago since august 2002.

"Arbor is one of these timeless records that can be played again and again without losing any of its original freshness [...] a beautiful record, magnificent in its fragility, and delicate in its might" (Arbor, 2002 - The Milk Factory / UK).

Sébastien Roux is a French musician
living in Paris. He was in charge of development as a part of the room
acoustics team at IRCAM
(Paris). Now, still at IRCAM, he works as a musical assistant:
creating customized tools for composers using the object oriented
programming environment MAX/MSP. He first explored music as a guitarist in various experimental-post
rock-ambient bands. His current solo work can be defined as melodic,
electronic and organic ambient compositions based on digitally
processed guitar drones. As a solo artist, his use of the guitar,
linked to digital processing, embraces one in a volatile and mesmering
warmth. A sort of digital returns to the natural word for inspiration,
guitar and computer create a sound recalling the work by fennesz,
deupree, labradford, amongst a few. His work has been featured on the
recent E.A.D.G.B.E. and
TWO POINT TWO compilations
on the New-York minimalist label 12k, on the LEVITATE
compilation on the promising French label N-Rec as a collaborative work with Sogar), as well
as 'object set and motion' on apestaartje. His first solo full length
will be released on the NY label apestaartje in july 2004 and a follow-up on the
New-York 12 Label. He also plays with Eddie Ladoire as a
duet called Heller in which he combines his drones with Eddie's hyper
digital manipulations. Their first album "09..03" has been released on
n-rec. With musical critics Maxime Guitton,
he was awarded in 2003 the First Prize at the Arles international
radio creation competition Phonurgia, Radiomix series.

«roux establishes parameters which elegiac harmonies are set in perfect motion then allowed to unwind with all the care and precision of a classic swiss timepiece.» (from v/a 'Object, Set and Motion', apestaartje, 2004 - %array)
"Sébastien Roux delivers a trio of faintly grit-speckled waverings; deep slurs slide through the fractured-yet-fluid "Toasa", whose smeary chords shift choppily, sometimes against lightly sizzling particles" (V/A: E/A/D/G/B/E by Ambientrance , usa)
"With his focus on sonic detail, Roux's aesthetic comes closest to the 12k ideal of microsound. Roux's tiny sounds usually enter the scene painfully, with an accompanying halo of noise. His style tends to combine a shifting layer of buzzing drones with clearly articulated melodic crackles dancing in front. Tapped guitar harmonics are shaped into repeating patterns on "Utaro", while "Toasa" focuses on single string strums that emit showers of static. These three are wonderful tracks to crawl around in". (V/A: E/A/D/G/B/E, by Pitchforkmedia, usa)
"Roux uses pulsing hums and looped clicks on "Biratori" to evoke a sense of melancholy that'd do Philip Jeck proud" (V/A: E/A/D/G/B/E by Signal to noise, usa)

"wallpaper music #1"
Sound installation
Wallpaper music #1 is the first element of a series of sound installations whose principle is to integrate a musical environment in every kind of space, room, public space, workspace... The wallpaper, which obviously contributes to define the visual identity of the room, is also used here as an element of the sound scene. It is indeed pasted on a loudspeakers setup, made of four flat loudspeakers part of the wall. As "musique d’ameublement" by Erik Satie or "music for airports" by Brian Eno, the musical contents is a background music, a functional and daily element, like the light or the color of the room. The sound material is made of sequences randomly arranged and infinitely repeated, so that the temporality of the music tends to get closer to the temporality of the wallpaper" (sr)
